Rum, sweat, and feathers

St. Lucia Carnival, 2012!  Whew.  Here’s some music to set the mood: Gallop by Soca Skyo.

I’ll leave the description of the day to the pictures, but first let me explain how Carnival works.  Carnival is four days of revelry with the last two as parades into and around Castries, the capital. The parades are divided into “bands,” which are themed groups of one hundred or so people and are accompanied by 18-wheelers stacked high with soca-blasting speakers.  The bands we saw started a couple miles away in St. Lucia’s only movie theater’s parking lot and I think they began preparing/ drinking around 4 AM.
